About FJE

I was born in Nantyglo in September 1944, where I attended Garnfach Primary School from 1949 to 1956 and Hafod-y-Ddol (Nantyglo Grammar School) from 1956 to 1961. In 1961  I started my apprenticeship as a Fitter/Turner in the RTB Steelworks at Ebbw Vale, I continued working in the Steelworks until 2001, from 1967 as a fitter in the Central Fitting Shop, and later as a chargehand and team leader.
My interest in photography began in 1956 when I was bought a Kodak Stirling 11 folding camera which took a 620 film, I then started developing my own Black and White films and producing contact prints, an enlarger  followed and I was soon making enlargements. However as time passed I was using the equipment  less and less, then the time came when 620 film was difficult to find, so I purchased my first SLR a Pentax ME Super (about 1980),  but it was not until 1986 that I decided to get out and about  and take my photography seriously. I soon built up a reasonable kit (mainly Pentax), but it was not until 1988 that I decided to use slide film regularly,  I joined the Pentax Club and started making submissions to Photographic Magazines, after a few publications I was really hooked.

In 1993 I joined Skirrid Photographic Group and in 1994 I had my first acceptances in The Welsh Salon of Photography, I gained my CPAGB in 1996 and in 1997 my AWPF and had my first acceptance in The Welsh International Colour Slide Salon.  In 1999 I gained my DPAGB.

I joined Ebbw Vale Camera Club in June 2000 and  I am still a member of that club.
